Students who attend Winchester College are encouraged to register with us. We hold the contract to provide NHS Primary Care Medical services on campus 2 afternoons per week, coupled with being the closest GP Provider to the Colleges Medical Centre. Students registering from Winchester College will be allocated to an experienced child health named GP for continuity of care. GP Partner Dr Laura Francis BM MRCGP DRCOG DFFP.
Laura qualified in 2002. She then completed 4 years of hospital placements including specialties of general medicine, surgery, A&E, paediatrics and child health, orthopaedics and psychiatry. Laura was awarded the additional qualifications of DRCOG (diploma in the royal college of obstetrics and gynaecology) and DFFP (diploma in the faculty of family planning). Lastly Laura is the safeguarding lead for the Practice with over 10 years experience.
University of Winchester (UOW)
Students who attend UOW are welcome to register with us. We are the closest GP Practice to University of Winchester (UOW), just 7 minutes walk.
Adjoined to us is a Lloyds Pharmacy which again is the closest to campus for the students. We have over 35 years of experience working with Winchester University as it is now and King Alfred’s College as it was known in the past so really understand students (young adult health needs). We feel we offer great service along with on-line appointment booking and repeat prescription for your convenience. We are happy to accept your University of Winchester Student Card as proof of your residence in Winchester.
NHS Out of Area Registration
As a practice we have decided not to participate in the NHS Out of Area Registration process that was launched in Jan 2015 as we do not believe it’s operationally safe or in the best interest of the registering patient. Our practice ethos is that you are assigned a registered GP who takes ownership and responsibility for your care and we would not want to delegate any responsibility to another provider to respond to your urgent home visit request/s. Our local LMC and GPC are questioning whether the launch was rolled out correctly and whether systems are robust enough to provide a safe and adequate home visiting service. Therefore if you live outside of our Practice area, please see the NHS website for help in finding a GP Surgery closer to you.
Organ Donation
From 2020, adults in England will be considered potential donors unless they choose to opt out or are excluded. For more information please visit the Organ Donation NHS UK where you can also register your decision.
We have the right to refuse to register patients if they have a violent flag against their record.
