Register with us as a New Patient

How to Register

For the purpose of new registrations, St Paul’s Surgery covers the Winchester area from South Wonston to the North, Compton to the South, Itchen Abbas to the East and Crawley to the West.

We are pleased to accept registration requests from patients who are living within the area indicated in the map below:

Please see our practice boundary and check your postcode is within our catchment area.

We ask all new patients to complete either the online or paper registration which includes a Health Questionnaire. When a patient registers with a Practice it can take some time for medical notes to be transferred from the previous practice so it’s very important for the form to be completed accurately so that we can monitor any conditions appropriately. Additionally we invite everyone over the age of 40 to come in for a routine registration check.

We prefer patients to register online but if you would like to come into the practice we ask patients to attend weekdays after 10am and before 4pm, with their registration forms, proof of ID and residence. You may wish to download and complete the registration forms prior to attending the Surgery.

Acceptance on to the list is as at the discretion of the Doctor and we will ask you for proof of identity. (Please refer to our registration policy below and why we ask for this).

There are a number of reasons why you may not be able to register with your chosen GP, for example you may live too far away. If this is the case simply choose another GP in your local area.

University of Winchester (UOW)

Students who attend UOW are welcome to register with us. We are the closest GP Practice to University of Winchester (UOW), just 7 minutes walk.

Adjoined to us is a Lloyds Pharmacy which again is the closest to campus for the students. We have over 30 years of experience working with Winchester University as it is now and King Alfred’s College as it was known in the past so really understand students (young adult health needs). We feel we offer great service along with on-line appointment booking and repeat prescription for your convenience. We are happy to accept your University of Winchester Student Card as proof of your residence in Winchester.

NHS Out of Area Registration

As a practice we have decided not to participate in the NHS Out of Area Registration process that was launched in Jan 2015 as we do not believe it’s operationally safe or in the best interest of the registering patient. Our practice ethos is that you are assigned a registered GP who takes ownership and responsibility for your care and we would not want to delegate any responsibility to another provider to respond to your urgent home visit request/s. Our local LMC and GPC are questioning whether the launch was rolled out correctly and whether systems are robust enough to provide a safe and adequate home visiting service.  Therefore if you live outside of our Practice area, please see the NHS website for help in finding a GP Surgery closer to you.

We have the right to refuse to register patients if they have a violent flag against their record.
