CHILDHOOD IMMUNISATIONS

This practice follows the national policy for childhood immunisation. Further information can be found on the NHS Immunisation Schedule website.

Vaccination planner

For routine childhood immunisations please make an appointment with one of the Practice Nurses. Child Immunisation clinics are held every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Please check the following 6 points before bringing your child to the surgery for an immunisation injection. If the answer to any of the questions is yes then please seek advice from the Practice Nurses.

  • Is your child suffering from any feverish illness?
  • Has your child ever had a fit or convulsion?
  • Is your child taking steroid treatments?
  • Does your child suffer from any disease affecting the immune system?
  • Does your child have a severe reaction to eggs?
  • Has your child had a serious reaction from a previous injection?

The currently recommended vaccination schedule is as follows (from 1/7/2013):

Under 5 year olds

Age Details
2 months

1st dose, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, HIB vaccine, 1st Pneumococcal vaccine and 1st Rotavirus vaccine, 1st Men B Vaccine (4 vaccines).

3 months 2nd dose, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, HIB vaccine, 2nd dose Rotavirus vaccine and 1st dose Meningitis C vaccine. (3 vaccines).
4 months 3rd dose, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, HIB vaccine and 2nd Pneumococcal vaccine and 2nd Men B vaccine (3 vaccines).
12-13 months Hib booster and 2nd Meningitis C, 1st MMR, 3rd Pneumococcal and 3rd Men B vaccine (4 vaccines).
3½ years 2nd MMR and diphtheria, tetanus, polio and pertussis booster (2 Vaccines).

 

Recommended guidance is to give your child 1 x 2.5mls of infant paracetamol Calpol one hour prior to your appointment.
